Dock Network Invites

A core feature of Dock is the ability to manage your network and contacts, and users are able to add their contacts from other networks (such as LinkedIn or Google), to join their network on Dock. Once you are connected with your network on Dock, you will then be able to transfer and update these connections on other platforms.

The email you received was not initiated by Dock but through one of your existing contacts from another platform. Their name and public photograph will appear on the email you received so you know who invited you.

The way it works in practice, is that your LinkedIn or Google contact who is also a Dock member, will import their network from those platforms into Dock. An email is the initiated and sent to the email address you have used to register with those networks inviting you to join Dock.

We only process your email address to send you the invitation through our system.

Which data is being collected by Dock to send the invite?

The only information that is provided to add someone as part of a network is their name and email address. The email invites are initiated by users on the Dock platform and are sent on their behalf - similar to sending an email through Gmail. Receiving an invite does not mean that you have an account on Dock nor has any data been collected about you other than the information provided by the user who sent the email invite.

Is this GDPR compliant?

Yes, we have worked closely with GDPR legal experts to ensure that our processing and use of data as part of our email invite campaign is fully GDPR compliant.

The lawful basis on which we process your data is that of ‘legitimate interests’ under Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. We have conducted a legitimate interests assessment and concluded that we are pursuing a legitimate business interest (because we want to allow our members to invite their networks to join Dock), that the processing is necessary for us to achieve our purpose and that your rights and freedoms are not compromised on this basis.

We do not disclose your personal data to any other recipients or users on Dock and we do not use your personal data for any automated decision-making or profiling, or for any purpose other than inviting you to join your contact on the Dock network.

We also give you the right to immediately ask us to stop sending you notifications by clicking on ‘unsubscribe from invitations’ in the email.

To learn more about our practices around personal data, see our privacy policy.
